Seating for Weddings, Condolences and Graduations

Seating for Weddings, Condolences and Graduations

The same pieces can serve three different occasions. The way you arrange them changes completely.

The reason is rhythm: who arrives first, where guests look, and how long they stay.

Weddings: one scene everyone turns toward

A wedding has a clear centre: the kosha, the stage or the couple's seats.

  • Face the stage toward the entrance, so guests see it as they walk in.
  • Place chairs and tables so nobody's view of the stage is blocked.
  • Leave photo space in front of the stage. It is the busiest spot.
  • Think about separate seating for women and men guests if the occasion calls for it.

Flowers and lighting are part of the seating here, so plan them from the start.

Condolences: comfort, calm and easy movement

A condolence gathering runs for hours and the guests change. The goal is that each guest sits comfortably, pays their respects and leaves without a crowd.

  • Choose comfortable seating for long sitting, with chairs for older guests among it.
  • Make the entrance obvious so arrivals know where to go.
  • Arrange seating in rows or open sides that allow greetings and movement.
  • Keep coffee and water close, where serving doesn't interrupt anyone sitting.
  • Keep the lighting quiet and the layout simple.

The most important thing is that no guest feels crowded or confused.

Graduation parties: room to move and take photos

A graduation brings friends and families together, with lots of photos and walking around.

  • Set aside a photo corner with a simple backdrop and good light.
  • Keep the seating flexible: light chairs and small tables that can be moved.
  • Spread seating in groups, because guests move between friends and family.
  • Don't fill the space with pieces. Movement and photos matter more than more seating.

Three questions before you decide

Before choosing the seating, answer these:

  1. How many hours will a guest stay seated?
  2. Is there one point everyone must see?
  3. Which guests need the most comfort?

The answers decide for you: sofas or chairs, floor or raised, rows or groups.
