Questions about zal (traditional carpet) rental
What is the difference between a zal and an ordinary carpet?
A zal is a hand-woven piece with geometric patterns in colours inherited from Najdi and Bedouin culture, intended as the floor of a sitting where guests rest directly on it with cushions and backrests. An ordinary carpet is simply a floor covering, without the visual identity the zal brings to the space.
How do I choose the right size of zal for my space?
Send us a photo of the space and tell us your guest count and the shape of sitting you have in mind, whether a row, a circle or another arrangement. We suggest the right piece or a combination of pieces to cover the area in a balanced, attractive way.
Can the zal be laid in an open space or on bare earth?
The zal can be laid on level ground whether it is tiles, compacted sand or grass. On bare earth or loose sand the layout differs from tiles, so tell us about the surface and we agree the right way to lay it.
How do I look after the zal during the event?
It is best for guests to take off their shoes before sitting on the zal, as in a traditional sitting, and for cups and trays to go on low tables rather than straight on the weave. Tell us if your occasion has floor tables and we arrange their places around the zal.
